How to get a PAN card online (instant e-PAN)

Get a free instant e-PAN using your Aadhaar on the Income Tax e-Filing portal, or apply through Protean or UTIITSL if you need a physical card.

The steps, in order

Keep your Aadhaar handy — the mobile number linked to it must be active, because verification is by OTP.

Open the official Income Tax e-Filing portal and choose Instant e-PAN under Quick Links.

Select Get New e-PAN, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and confirm with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.

Check the details pulled from Aadhaar, submit, and note the acknowledgement number.

Return to the same page to check status and download the e-PAN PDF once it is allotted. If you need a physical card, or your mobile is not linked to Aadhaar, apply through Protean or UTIITSL (a fee applies).
